Starting your
home-based business can be a little scary, especially when you
aren’t so sure where to start. Sadly, most people who start
home-based businesses somehow fail within the first year?
Why is this
the case? I believe the biggest culprit is the lack of home
office
organization.
It may sound crazy, but how you set up your
home office is going to effect how your business does. If you have to
take a lot of time away from your work to look for things, you are not
being very productive.
To make sure that your home-based business
doesn’t fail, you will want to follow these suggestions on
home office organization:
1. Declutter. The first thing you can do is
get rid of things that you don’t really use or need.
Eliminate papers that aren’t needed in your space. Also if
you don’t use items like pencils, don’t let them
take up your precious space. It’s amazing how much space
little things take up. You will be surprised at how much space you have
created by just decluttering.
2. Sort what’s left. Now that you
have gotten rid of the stuff that you don’t need, you will
want to sort the remaining items. For now, you can create piles. Make a
paper pile, a pen pile, etc.
3. Find a home for your stuff. After you
have organized your office stuff into piles, you will want to give
everything a home. Make sure you use separate drawers or compartments
for every item. Just by doing this, you have eliminated almost all of
your clutter.
4. Choose the right color scheme. Home
office organization doesn’t just have to be in or on your
desk. You will also want to have decorations that help you work better.
It is best to have more neutral colors. Bright and warm colors are
known to distract.
You need to be aware that your home office
organization has a huge impact on your productivity and effectiveness.
The reason why so many home businesses go under is because most people
don’t think it is necessary to eliminate clutter and
organizational chaos.
If you are easily able to find things that
you need, it is more likely that you won’t waste precious
minutes, nor get frustrated and distracted.
