A great way to make sure that your home-based business thrives is to stay organized. If it is always hard to find things, it is likely that you are spending precious time on something totally unnecessary. Organizing home office spaces to make thinks functional doesn’t have to be complicated.

The first thing that you will want to do is set up a filing system. Just by keeping your papers all in order is a great way to start better organization practices. The best way to stay organized this way is to purchase a filing cabinet. You can find them in various sizes and colors.

If a stand-still cabinet is not practical for you, you can find filing cabinets on wheels. You could also use plastic containers, file briefcases, or boxes to fit your needs.

Another great idea to make sure that you are properly organizing home office papers is to use in and out baskets. This will help you quickly organize papers that need your attention right away and those that you can file away later.

You can find stacking baskets in practically any office supply store. You can have them just sitting on your desk or mounted to the wall. Or, if you want something more pocket-like, you can find racks that hold your papers vertically instead of laying flat.

Another great way to eliminate a lot of paper is to store a lot of information you have online. Some of the things that you can think about putting on the computer include your address book, to-do lists, tax information, checkbooks, bills, record keeping, etc. However, it is a good idea to keep a backup of all of your information in a safe place in case your computer crashes.

One thing that I like to do before the end of each work day is to make sure my working space is cleaned off. At this time I put my organizing home office skills to use and file away the papers that need to put away. I also make sure pens and other office items are properly stored so that I can easily find them the next day.
